Remember back during E3 when word got out from a couple Nintendo reps that Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival would be a free download? Either that info was completely incorrect or Nintendo had a change of plans since E3. There's no free download version of the game. You'll have to pony up $60 to get the title, and here's what's included.

Nintendo didn't comment on whether the bundled amiibo would be available separately. They also didn't explain what the 'limited time offer' logo means for Digby on the box.

The new animal amiibo will be compatible with the Japanese gaming giant's Wii U 'Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival,' with the second wave four animal figurines, which include Celeste, Blathers, Resetti and Kicks. With the new animal amiibo, Nintendo will also launch 'Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer' amiibo cards for its 3DS. Josh Thomas from popular YouTube channel The Bit Block has discovered that the recently announced Animal Crossing amiibo Festival will be a free to play title for the Wii U. So you certainly won’t be forking out for anything, other than the amiibo that you wish to use with the game.

During E3 Nintendo announced Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival for the Wii U, to operate the game will require Amiibo's which will operate as your characters in the game (akin to Mario Party 10's Amiibo Party). During E3 news surfaced that suggested that Amiibo Festival was going to be a free download which you would then need to purchase individual Amiibo's to play the game, Nintendo did also announce a physical version which would come with Amiibo's. It was assumed that this would arrive in two forms one as a free download and one as a packaged bundle, however Nintendo has confirmed that no such free version will exist.

Speaking to Destuctoid, Nintendo confirmed that Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival will be a $60 game that games with a physical version of the game, two Amiibo's and three Amiibo Cards. So the dream ends and if you really want this game you will have to buy it from stores.
